4. CHECK SOLONOID
Riding mowers, battery started generators all have one, easiest way to find it is to start from
battery on positive cable [red] and follow it until you come to it. TO CHECK YOU WILL NEED A
SMALL JUMPER WIRE ABOUT FOUR INCHES LONG. See arrow in photo, both ends of your wire
need to be exposed, trim wire with wire strippers or small knife.

My wire in photo is orange,
an old lamp cord would make
plenty of jumper wire as an
example. If you will look
closely you will see a big red
wire connected to solonoid,
where one end of orange
jumper wire is touching and
on the other end of jumper
is a small terminal where it is
touching. NOTE; You will only
need to touch your jumper to
these points, not attach as in
photo.
WHEN YOU DO THIS ENGINE
SHOULD SPIN, OR STARTER
ENGAGE IF SOLENOID IS
GOOD
If not then replace solonoid.
To replace solonoid you will need to disconnect positive side of
battery first. YOU WILL NEED SEVEN SIXTEENTHS WRENCH, AND
THREE EIGHTS SOCKET RATCHET AND FOUR INCH
EXTENSION.Smallwire just plugs in to bottom of solonoid. The two
big wires are held to the solenoid by seven sixteenths nuts. TIP
SPRAY THE NUTS WITH WD 40 BEFORE LOOSENING. THE SOLONOID
IS HELD TO FRAME EITHER BY THREE EIGHTS OR SEVEN
SIXTEENTHS BOLTS. REMOVE AND REPLACE IF DETERMINED BAD.
NOTE; ANEW SOLONOID
COST BETWEEN $10- $15
                      IF SOLENOID CHECKED OUT GOOD
Turn key and still nothing happens, with parking brake engaged, blades off, in neutral,
then the next step is to check ignition switch.
NOTE; YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THE COLOR OF THE SMALL WIRE ON THE
SOLONOID, YOU TOUCHED THE JUMPER TO, SOME ARE WHITE, YELLOW, RED, AND SO
ON
SEE NEXT PAGE FOR IGNITION SWITCH CHECK.
