| 1. MOST COMMON CAUSE IS WATER IN CARBURETOR, IT BUILDS UP AFTER YOU SET EQUIPMENT UP FOR WINTER, CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE CAUSES MOISTURE TO FORM. SEE CARB SECTION AND PERFORM BOWL CLEAN OUT. 2. POSSIBLE FOULED SPARK PLUG, PULL OUT AND CHANGE. THE CONDITION OF YOUR SPARK PLUG WILL INDICATE THA SHAPE YOUR SMALL ENGINE IS IN, FOR INSTANCE A BLACK SOOTY PLUG, DRY SOOT WILL INDICATE YOUR ENGINE IS GETTING TO MUCH FUEL, WHICH IS A MINOR PROBLEM, A BLACK GREASY PLUG, OR OILY INDICATES OIL USAGE AND SHOP TIME IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, THE ENGINE WILL START TO USE OIL. A GRAYISH TO BROWN DRY APPEARANCE INDICATES A NORMAL RUNNING ENGINE WITH GOOD COMPRESSSION. 3. CHECK CARB,AND CHECK PLUG, ALSO CHECK FUEL TANK FOR WATER. NOTE; WATER IN FUEL TANK OR ANYTHING CONTAINING FUEL WILL APPEAR TO BE BUBBLES IN BOTTOM OF TANK, IF YOU CAN SHAKE TANK AND SEE BUBBLES MOVE, YOU HAVE THE PRESENCE OF WATER. 4. AFTER YOU HAVE MADE THESE COMMON CHECKS AND STILL RUNS ROUGH, YOU MAY HAVE INTERNAL ENGINE PROBLEMS, IT WILL BE SHOP TIME. |

| OIL LEVEL FOUND TO BE TOO FULL 1. DRAIN ALL OIL FROM ENGINE, SINCE PART OF IT IS GASOLINE THAT HAS MADE IT INTO THE CRANKCASE OF YOUR ENGINE, YOU WILL NOTICE THAT FUEL HAS DISAPPEARED FROM YOUR FUEL TANK, UNLESS YOU HAVE ADDED TOO MUCH TO START WITH. 2. FIRST INSTALL A CUTTOFF VALVE IN YOUR FUEL LINE, IT WILL RANGE BETWEEN $3.00 AND $6.00, SEE PHOTO AT BOTTOM OF PAGE FOR EXAMPLE. 3 TAKE SPARK PLUG OUT AND SPIN ENGINE OVER BY IGNITION TO BLOW FUEL OUT OF CYLINDER, DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES, DRY OFF SPARK PLUG AND REINSTALL. 4. REFILL CRANKCASE WITH OIL TO SPECIFIED LEVEL ON OIL STICK. 5. MAKE SURE CUTTTOFF VALVE IS INSTALLED BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO START ENGINE, YOU MAY RUN ENGINE THIS WAY, BUT WHEN YOU SHUT IT DOWN YOU MUST REMMEMBER TO CUTT VALVE OFF BECAUSE IF YOU DONT FUEL WILL GO BACK INTO OIL. TO FIX YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE NEEDLE IN CARB, IF NOT FLOAT ALSO, BECAUSE NEEDLE AND FLOAT ARE NOT SHUTING FUEL FLOW OFF WHEN BOWL GETS FULL OF FUEL CAUSING FUEL TO FLOW INTO CYLINDER AND CRANKCASE.
